"People still have this old media thinking: They think of the web being similar to TV because it’s on the screen and visual. The main distinction is whether it’s active or passive, not whether it’s on a screen or not."

I admit I was a little bit disappointed after the Apple event today, having already seen all the leaked pictures of the new Macbooks and MB Pros. “One more thing..” wasn´t exciting at all when everybody knew the event was missing the Macbooks up to then. Anyhow, these new displays are pretty cool since I can leave my power adapter in my notebook case and have less clutter on/around my desk. Even with the new entry level Macbooks. And they are LED based. These will be killer when the 30” is released.

AppleInsider | Apple HDTV rumors resurface
I can´t either see why Apple would go into that low margin overcrowded business of HDTVs when the AppleTV is so plug and play already.
Then again, people probably said that about mobile phones as well when the iPhone rumours started popping up, and they turned the whole mobile phone business upside down in the shortest time.
I don´t think this is surprising. I tested it and… ok… Webkit: awesome… but what else ? Didn´t like the GUI, don´t need anymore webkit based browsers, and I work enough already to keep advertisers, spam and spyware out of my browsing experience to actually invite them in. I think this is just a spin-off from the Android development and not really a focus (I hope).

Automatic Adjustable Wrench: Power Tool meets Hand Tool » Coolest Gadgets
Now, this is real development ! Glad somebody works on this everyday stuff as well, because those are real annoyances which need addressing. Of course, the fact that my wrench needs a battery adds a little to the annoyances though.
Woz, or Steve Wozniak, the cofounder of Apple, is a smart guy. That´s why I think the quick gossip-like headlines all over the internet the last days (“Apple co-founder believes iPod has about run its course”) is very simplified.
It depends on how you define “iPod”. The iPod Touch is also an iPod, and I can very well see a future iPod Touch with WiFi and perhaps Wimax capabilities, which is not a phone (thus not the moniker “iPhone”), but could be the prefered communication (and media) device from Apple. People are switching to VOIP at home so why wouldn’t they want to get away from the cellular network provider’s long reigning hands when on the go as well ?
“Even” major Norwegian newspaper VG eats this article raw and reruns it on their website. If the downfall of the iPod has already started why would this even be a good headline ? Because the premise is vague and the headline surprising. It´s not surprising that pure mp3 music players are dead (unless in an even more miniature form perhaps), but an iPod is so much more today. There´s a huge difference between the firste gen iPods and what we have today. So in that sense the iPod died out years ago.
All products have a limited lifespan, if not technology allows them to converge with another product, and brand and marketing makes the transition seamless. I have never owned an iPod, but years ago I had a PDA. I always felt uneasy about carrying both it and my mobile phone. But is the PDA dead ? My iPhone does exactly the same only better (partly because the PDA ran Windows CE), besides being a good web browser (browser tablets anyone?), a phone, and a music player.
As much as I think Sony-Ericsson is on the wrong track with their mobile phones, I think they eventually will get their 7 megapixels slapped-on Carl Zeiss lenses right. When the image sensor technology is good enough to make noiseless small sensors (which probably also record HD video without problems) those lenses will come to use. Even though I am above average interested in photography and prefer a dedicated digital SLR camera (today..), it will most probably make most sense to people in the future that their iPod, as well as being a communications device, also takes pretty damn good pictures and video. When it also has those capabilities, will it be dead again ?
How sad. Announcing a new sitewide advertiser. When the CEO doesn’t have anymore exciting news than this I begin to think that a part of Myspace is dying and turning in to just a music store.
This may actually solve one of my major gripes with macs. With all the work Apple puts down in the seamless experience on syncing iPhones and everything, having a macbook and an imac that you want to have in sync is still a major pain.
And btw, MobileMe is just too much of what I don´t need, and won´t actually sync accounts.
Apple Shifting Tactics on Suppressing Product Leaks? - Mac Rumors
With all the Apple rumour sites and all the speculation around some are bound to get it right some of the time, without it being possible for Apple to prove that it’s illegal use of their info or a leak.
Besides, most of the “product leaks” seem to work quite well in hyping the products and events for Apple.
Mecca - A Social Browser for Mac OS X Leopard
Interesting new browser (and name!). It´s still not out but from the feature set it looks promising, and it´s also nice that it´s especially made for Cocoa and with an Apple-like UI.
It reminds me strangely of Coda, since they break an old “Unix trend” of small programs which do a specific task, and combine a lot of programs in one window.
I like the coverflow of tabs (I guess) but other than that my 24” screen is perfectly capable of showing more program windows besides my browser. Mecca may get passed up on like Flock but then again it is rather based on Safari´s WebKit which is all the rage right now.
